Oathill Lake Spring Garbage Cleanup

If you can help out in this community event, please gather at the foot of the walking trail between 16 and 18 Oathill Crescent. We’ll divide the shoreline and trails among participants and will hopefully make short work of it once again this year.

•Gloves and garbage bags provided by Clean NS
•Coffee and treats to be provided

Community spirit and engagement will be the bonus provided by your personal involvement. As in our previous efforts, we’ll all find it interesting and rewarding to meet those neighbors we hadn’t yet met or really didn’t know.

See you there.

Annual General Meeting of the Oathill Lake Conservation Society

You’re Invited!
Please join us for the Annual General Meeting of the Oathill Lake Conservation Society (OLCS). We’ll be updating the community on a variety of projects and programs affecting the lake.

Storm Sewer Update
Do you know storm water from dozens of streets in Dartmouth drain directly into Oathill Lake? Come hear what’s planned to ameliorate this problem — a partnership project between OLCS, HRM and Halifax Water.

Trail and Bank Repairs
HRM is planning to repair and upgrade parts of the trail system around the lake. Come to the meeting and find out how recreational user stand to benefit.

Invasive Species Removal
An astonishing array of plant species grow around the lake, including several invasive species that are crowding out and killing native plants. Come and find out what’s being done to solve this issue — a partnership between OLCS and HRM Parks. Some walkers will have noticed that the multiflora rose bushes are gone from the lake side of the path between the weir and Lorne Avenue. Multiflora climb nearby trees and choke them.

Oathill Lake Spring 2013 Clean-up

Saturday, April 20 @ 0900 (rain or shine)

This year the cleanup is earlier to co-ordinate with the provincial environmental campaign CLEAN ACROSS NOVA SCOTIA by Clean Nova Scotia and to minimize potential damage to varied tender spring vegetation around the lake.

If you would like to help with this event, please gather at 3 Fairfield Ave. We’ll divide the shoreline and trails among participants and will hopefully make short work of it once again this year.

Reasons to participate:

1. Help out your environment. Here’s one way to do it.

2. A good opportunity to lead by example – and it only takes a morning.

Gloves*, bags* and refreshments will be provided by the organizers. Community spirit and engagement will be the bonus provided by your personal involvement. As in our previous efforts, we’ll all find it interesting and rewarding to meet those neighbors we hadn’t yet met or really didn’t know. See you there.
